Layne Staley's condo.
Place of Interest in Seattle, Washington, United States.
This is the condo where "Alice in Chains" lead singer Layne Staley was found dead in 2002.
It is situated at 4528 8th Avenue NE in Seattle, Washington.
Layne rose to fame during the early 1990s as one of the pioneers of Seattle's grunge movement.
On April 19th, 2002, the singer's body was discovered at this apartment building during a welfare check. The check was carried out after his accountants realized that there had been no withdrawals from his bank account for over two weeks.
Inside, the police found Staley's partially-decomposed remains in the living room, surrounded by drug paraphernalia. He had been dead since April 5th.
A subsequent toxicology report showed that Staley had overdosed on a speedball, which is a mixture of heroin and cocaine.
According to his mother, Nancy McCallum, Staley was in rehab more than a dozen times. However, he was unable to kick his drug habit.
In the last four years of his life, the Alice in Chains singer became a recluse who rarely left this condo building in Seattle's U District.
During this period, he lost a lot of weight and started to look extremely sick and malnourished. When family and friends attempted to phone him or knock on his door, they often received no answer.
Reports suggest that he spent his final years taking drugs, playing video games and creating artwork.
