Israel Keyes' house

This is Israel Keyes' former house.

It is located at 2456 Spurr Lane in Anchorage, Alaska.

Keyes was a serial killer who murdered three people. The authorities suspect that he may have been responsible for at least eleven deaths.

He moved to Anchorage in 2007. Before that, he had lived with his Native American girlfriend and their daughter in Washington state.

The house was built in 1971. It has three bedrooms and is approximately 1,970 sqft in size. It was last sold in March 2021. At the time, the owners had listed it for sale for $425,000. Note that the decking in the photographs above has since been replaced.

In June 2011, Keyes kidnapped Bill and Lorraine Currier from their home in Essex Junction, Vermont, before murdering them at an abandoned farmhouse.

Google Street View
Keyes owned a construction business in Anchorage. In July 2011, the Google Street View car captured images of him working on Pluto Drive. This was just one month after he had killed Bill and Lorraine Currier.

In February 2012, he abducted 18-year-old Samantha Koenig from a coffee stand in Anchorage and brought her back to this residence on Spurr Lane.

Security footage showed a masked man kidnapping Koenig from the Common Grounds coffee stand on Tudor Road.

After securing Koenig's ATM debit card and PIN number, he sexually assaulted the teenager in his front shed and strangled her to death.

Following the murder, he left her body in his shed and went on a cruise with his family for approximately 16 days.

Inside
The inside in 2020. Following his arrest, the authorities found true crime books about serial killers inside his home. Keyes reportedly "idolized" Ted Bundy.

When Keyes returned from the trip, he applied makeup to Koenig's face and sewed her eyelids open using fishing line. He did this because he wanted to extort her family for ransom money and needed to make it appear as though she was still alive.

After taking photographs of the victim and writing a ransom note, he began dismembering her body. Shortly afterwards, he drove 40 miles north to Matanuska Lake, where he cut a hole in the ice and dumped her remains.

Matanuska Lake
Keyes drove 40 miles to Matanuska Lake. Koenig's remains were later found by an FBI dive team.

Following the murder, Keyes flew to Las Vegas and hired a rental car. From there, he drove eastward, through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. During his journey, he stopped four times to withdraw money using Koenig's ATM card.

His luck finally ran out on March 13th, 2012, when a state trooper pulled him over in Lufkin, Texas. At the time, the police were on the lookout for his white Ford Focus, as the FBI had issued a bulletin to all law enforcement agencies around the I-10 corridor.

Keyes was transported back to Anchorage, where he confessed to Koenig's murder. He also admitted his involvement in the Currier case.

interviews
He was somewhat willing to cooperate with the authorities. In the months that followed, he agreed to meet with investigators and confess to his crimes. However, during his interviews, he largely remained elusive.

On December 2nd, 2012, Keyes committed suicide in his jail cell using a hidden razor blade. During a search of his cell, the authorities found paintings of 11 skulls and a pentagram. He had secretly painted the images using his own blood.

Skulls
On one of the paintings, he wrote the words, "We are one."

Investigators believe that each skull represents one of his victims.
