Kelly Sue Bunting: Crime scene location

This is the location where serial killer Robert Shulman dumped the body of Kelly Sue Bunting.

It is situated at 1875 Walt Whitman Road in Melville, New York.

At the time of the murder, the property belonged to a company called FRP Sheet Metal Contracting. These days, the building appears to be vacant.

Bunting was a sex worker who hung out on Jamacia Avenue in Hollis, Queens. At the time of her death, she was using the name Melani Vilavencencio.

Shulman picked Bunting up on December 8th, 1995, and brought her back to his apartment in Hicksville.

The two knew each other, as she had visited his residence in the past. According to another sex worker who Schulman had previously hired, he was angry at "Melani" because he believed that she had stolen cocaine from him.

When Bunting and Shulman arrived at his house in Hicksville, they reportedly smoked crack together. However, at some point during the night, he became so filled with rage and anger that he "lost control" and bludgeoned Bunting to death with a dumbbell.

Following the murder, he removed her hands with a hacksaw and wrapped her body in a sleeping bag. He then dumped the sleeping bag in a dumpster that was situated in the parking lot of this property on Walt Whitman Road.

Schulman cut Bunting's hands off because he knew that the police would attempt to identify her by running her fingerprints through the system. However, he overlooked a tattoo on her chest that read "Melani".

On the morning of December 11th, 1995, a worker at FRP Sheet Metal Contracting discovered Bunting's remains in the dumpster while he was searching for a misplaced lottery ticket.

The police were able to trace the victim's identity by publishing a photograph of her tattoo in the local newspaper. After receiving an anonymous tip from the public, investigators quickly learned that their Jane Doe was a sex worker who was last seen getting into a blue Cadillac with a white male in Hollis, Queens.

Schulman was so well known by sex workers in the Hollis area that they instantly recognized his vehicle and were able to pinpoint his address.

Bunting was Schulman's fifth victim. She also proved to be his last, as it was her identification that directly led to his capture.
