The location where James Dean's last photograph was taken
Place of Interest in Sherman Oaks, California, United States
This is the location where James Dean's last photograph was taken.
It is situated at 14325 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, California.
Back in 1955, this corner was occupied by a gas station called Casa de Petrol. These days, it is the location of a Whole Foods store.
The photograph was taken on the same day that Dean died in a car crash.
The actor stopped at the station to fill up his Porsche 550 Spyder, which he was planning on racing in Salinas.
Initially, the plan was to transport the vehicle on the back of a trailer (visible in the background). However, Dean made the fateful decision to drive it to Salinas himself in order to break the engine in.
Sadly, he never made it to his destination, as he was involved in a fatal collision on California State Route 46, near Shandon.
Although Casa de Petrol eventually closed, the remnants of the station stood at this corner up until 2016, when it was torn down to make way for a Whole Foods grocery store.
Further information is available in the "Photos" section below.
Demolished
The gas station no longer exists. However, you can still visit the location.
Further Details
The original gas station was demolished in September of 2016.

Casa de Petrol

The Google Street View image above was captured in April of 2014—roughly two years before the property was demolished.
When Dean stopped here in 1955, it was a gas station called Casa de Petrol.
Although it became a flower store during the 1980s, the shape of the building and the fuel pump islands remained the same.
The red circle indicates the exact location where Dean parked his Porsche.
2015

This image shows a different angle. It was taken in November of 2015.
Last photo

This was one of the last photographs taken of Dean before his fatal car accident.
As you can see, the actor was standing on the western side of the fuel pump that was closest to Ventura Boulevard.
The trailer that was originally going to transport his Porsche is visible in the background.
Whole Foods

The lot is now home to a Whole Foods grocery store.
Judging by Google Street View images, the location where Dean's photograph was taken is just inside the store, near the first set of windows facing Ventura Boulevard.
After walking in through the front entrance, the windows will be on your right.
