In real life, it is called the Sidebar Tavern, and it is situated on the corner of Lexington Street and Guilford Avenue in Downtown Baltimore.
This location features in a number of episodes, as it is the bar where members of the Baltimore Police Department like to hang out together and drink after work.
One of the most memorable scenes occurs in the episode "Dead Soldiers" in Season 3, when the body of homicide detective Ray Cole is laid out on the pool table during his wake. During the scene, squad supervisor Jay Landsman gives an emotional toast to the deceased officer.
After a night of drinking and taking part in singalongs, detectives Bunk Moreland and Jimmy McNulty are shown stumbling around and vomiting on the sidewalk outside.
