Eminem's childhood home
Celebrity House in Detroit, Michigan
This is the location where Eminem's childhood home once stood.
It is situated at 19946 Dresden Street in Detroit, Michigan.
The rap star's former house sat just behind the tree that we have highlighted in the image above.
In the drama film 8 Mile (2002), Marshall lives in a trailer park. However, in real life, he grew up on this block in the Greensbriar neighborhood of Detroit.
The neighborhood lies to the south of 8 Mile Road, which traditionally served as a "psychological boundary" between the African American neighborhoods in the south and the white suburbs in the north.
Eminem lived here with his mother, Debbie Mathers, and his half-brother, Nathan.
The neighborhood was predominantly African American. As a result, Marshall "stuck out" and was sometimes beaten up by local youths.
On one occasion, a car full of youths flipped him off while he was walking home through the nearby Bel Air Shopping Center. When Marshall decided to "return the favor," they pulled the car over and attacked him.
Although there were short-lived plans to turn the boarded-up bungalow into a museum, those plans were dashed after the upstairs section was damaged by a fire on November 7th, 2013.
Following the fire, it was declared unsafe and subsequently demolished.
This is a common occurrence in Detroit, as the city contains swathes of derelict houses that are an easy target for arsonists. In certain cases, people will set these fires simply because they are sick and tired of seeing abandoned properties—many of which attract anti-social behavior such as drug abuse.
Eminem's childhood home was featured on the front cover of his album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," which was released just two days before it went up in flames. This raises the possibility that someone purposely targeted the house after seeing it on the album.

19946 Dresden Street
This Google Street View image of 19946 Dresden Street was taken in September 2013, roughly two months before it was destroyed by a fire.
On the right, we've added the cover of Eminem's album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2." In the image, Marshall can be seen sitting on the front porch.
The property had been lying vacant for years. As you can see, the number 19946 was spray painted on the boarded-up door at the front.
2009
Judging by Google Street View images, the neighborhood was still inhabited back in 2009. In this image, toys can be seen on the front lawn.
2011
By September 2011, the property was seemingly boarded up and disused.
On the right of this image, we've added the cover for Eminem's album "The Marshall Mathers LP," which was released in 2001. As you can see, the cover image for that album also featured the house.
Dresden Street
This section of Dresden Street is now an empty lot. Many of the houses on this block were torn down at some point after 2013.
