The location where the Zodiac Killer reported the Lake Berryessa attack
Place of Interest in Napa, California
On September 27th, 1969, the Zodiac Killer stabbed two college students beside Lake Berryessa.
Seventy minutes later, he called the police from a public payphone at this location in Napa.
At the time, 1231 Main Street was the address of a car wash. These days, it is a parking lot.
During the call, he claimed responsibility for the attack:
"I want to report a murder—No—a double murder. They are two miles north of Park Headquarters. They were in a white Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. I am the one who did it."
After confessing to the crime, he put the phone down on the shelf and walked away.
His decision to leave the phone off the hook may have been influenced by the fact that his previous call in Vallejo had been "traced" by a return call.
Although the police reportedly found a fresh palm print on the phone in Napa, they reportedly botched its recovery by not allowing it to dry properly.
