The house where Teresa Graves died in a fire

This is the house where actress Teresa Graves died in a fire.

It is located at 3437 West 78th Place in Los Angeles, California.

Graves was best known for portraying the titular character in the 1970s police drama "Get Christie Love!" She also appeared in the third season of the sketch comedy series "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In".

In 1983, she retired from acting and showbiz in general to devote her time to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Graves lived out the remainder of her life at this house in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. During her later years, she spent most of her days caring for her elderly mother, Willie.

Firefighters were called to this address shortly after midnight on October 10th, 2002, after a neighbor noticed that the back of the residence was engulfed in flames.

When the first responders entered the property, they found the former actress unconscious in her bedroom. Although a fire alarm at the front had been set off, it seems as though it didn't wake her in time.

Graves was rushed to the nearby Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood, where she was later pronounced dead at the age of 54.

Her elderly mother was not home at the time of the incident, as she had recently been hospitalized following a stroke.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a faulty space heater in Graves' back bedroom. Sadly, it seems as though the former actress suffered a significant amount of smoke inhalation before the fire alarm at the front of the house detected anything.

Get Christie Love!

Get Christie Love

Graves portrayed an undercover African-American female detective called Christie Love in the TV series "Get Christie Love!"

After apprehending a criminal, she would proudly state, "You're under arrest, sugar!"

She became a Jehovah's Witness shortly after the pilot was produced. Consequently, the creators had to make sure that the rest of the episodes conformed to her newfound religious beliefs. For example, Graves didn't want her character to drink alcohol or lie under any circumstances.

The last demand made things extremely challenging for the writers, as Christie was an undercover detective whose job involved lying to criminals.

These constraints, coupled with the show's low budget, eventually led to its cancellation after just one season.
