Robert's Lounge
Mob Hangout in Queens, New York
This is the former location of Robert's Lounge.
It is located at 114-45 Lefferts Boulevard in Queens, New York.
The lounge was used as a hangout by mobster Paul Vario, who was a caporegime in the Lucchese crime family (pictured top-right).
In December 1978, members of Vario's crew participated in the infamous Lufthansa heist at JFK airport.
When news of the crew's involvement in the robbery began to surface in the media, Vario sought to avoid unwelcome attention by renaming it the South Side Inn.
The Wikipedia article on this subject states that a police excavation team found a human leg bone and a shoulder bone buried in the basement in June 1980. However, this is false, as the medical examiner later determined that the bones actually belonged to a horse and a smaller animal, such as a goat or dog.
Vario was found guilty of fraud and extortion in the mid-1980s after Lucchese associate Henry Hill became an FBI informant and agreed to testify against him in court. On May 3rd, 1988, he died of lung cancer in prison at the age of 73.
