The church where Missy Bevers was murdered
Crime Scene Location in Midlothian, Texas
This is the church where Terri "Missy" Bevers was murdered.
It is called Creekside Church of Christ, and it is located at 5401 East Highway 287 in Midlothian, Texas.
On the night of April 17th, 2016, 45-year-old fitness instructor Missy Bevers announced on Facebook that her early morning class would be taking place inside the building due to heavy rainfall and thunder.
At around 4 a.m. the following morning, an unidentified person wearing police tactical gear entered the church and began opening doors and smashing glass.
The security footage shows that the person in question aimlessly wandered around the hallways with no intent on stealing anything. A statement by the police noted that no items of value were missing.
Shortly afterwards, the mother-of-three arrived at the church and began preparing for her fitness class. After going inside, she was attacked by the suspect, who was carrying a hammer and other tools.
Forensic podiatrist Dr. Michael Nirenberg was shown unreleased surveillance footage of Bevers inside the building. Nirenberg said the fitness instructor quickly turned her head, almost as if she had realized that she was not alone.
One of Bevers' students discovered her body at 5 a.m.
She had suffered a number of puncture wounds to her head and chest.
The nature of the crime has led investigators to believe that the suspect used Bevers' online schedule to figure out where she was going to be. The person in question then arrived at the church the next morning in police tactical gear with the sole purpose of killing her.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive, as none of Bevers' personal belongings were missing.
The opening of doors and the smashing of glass may have been done to make the murder look like a burglary that had gone wrong. The tactical gear was most likely worn as a disguise.
During the investigation, the alibis of Bevers' relatives were all checked out.
Although the police have said that they have a list of persons of interest, no arrests have been made. They have also been unable to determine the killer's gender.
The murder of Terri "Missy" Bevers remains unsolved to this day.
