The location where Jimmy McNulty crashed in The Wire

This is the location where Detective Jimmy McNulty crashed in The Wire.

The scene took place underneath the overpass beside 1025 South Haven Street in Baltimore, Maryland.

In Episode 8 of Season 2, McNulty gets so drunk at a local bar that the barman asks, "You're not getting behind the wheel of the car, are you?"

McNulty assures him that he is getting a taxi home:

"I'm looking you in the eye, Gus. I'm telling you that I'm not driving a car tonight."

Seconds later, we see him swerving down Haven Street while listening to the song "Transmetropolitan" by The Pogues.

He is so drunk that he is struggling to keep his eyes open.

After reaching the overpass by O'Donnell Street, he turns left.

However, he makes such a wide turn that he strikes the concrete bridge column on his right.

McNulty is so perplexed by the crash that he gets out of his vehicle to inspect the damage. Upon realizing his headlight is gone, he remarks, "Bite me."

In his arrogant, drunken state of mind, he believes that it shouldn't have happened. Convinced that the laws of physics must be wrong, he proceeds to measure the angle of the turn with his hands.

To prove he is right, he reverses and tries to make the turn again.

At that point, he strikes the column for the second time.
