The parking lot where Morgan Nick was abducted

Crime Scene Location Alma, Arkansas

Six-year-old Morgan Nick was abducted from this parking lot on Walnut Street in Alma, Arkansas.

On the night of Friday, June 9, 1995, Morgan and her mother attended a Little League baseball game at the Wofford baseball field in Alma.

At around 10:30 p.m., her mother reluctantly gave her permission to catch fireflies with her friends at a nearby sand pile behind the stands.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, her friends saw her standing by her mother's Nissan Stanza in the upper parking lot. At the time, she was emptying sand from her shoes and talking to a suspicious man near a red truck.

Witnesses at the ballpark later recalled seeing a red pickup truck with a white camper shell in the lot.

Investigators became interested in this red pickup truck after learning that it left around the same time Morgan went missing. Separate witnesses also said that the man in the truck made them feel uncomfortable.

A 70-year-old local man named Billy Jack Lincks soon became a person of interest, as he drove a similar vehicle.

Police questioned Lincks but released him after he denied involvement.

Twelve weeks later, on August 29, 1995, he was arrested for an unrelated child solicitation case. The following year, he was convicted of the crime and sentenced to six years in prison.

Despite more than 10,000 leads, the investigation into Morgan's disappearance yielded no viable suspects for 25 years.

A significant development occurred in 2020 when investigators located the red truck Lincks owned in 1995. After obtaining the current owner's permission, detectives vacuumed the interior and collected several canisters of material, which included hair.

The evidence was sent to a company called Othram Labs, which specializes in advanced DNA analysis. In September 2024, the lab concluded that a blonde, rootless hair found in the truck belonged to a member of the Nick family: either Morgan, her mother, or one of her siblings.

As the Nicks had no connection to Lincks, the evidence strongly indicated Morgan had been inside his vehicle.

House
Publicly accessible court documents from Lincks' August 1995 arrest show that he was living on Circle H Lane on the northern outskirts of Van Buren.

Lincks is now considered the prime suspect in the abduction. However, he died in prison on August 5, 2000, at the age of 75.

Morgan Nick remains missing to this day.
