Tina Satchwell's house

This is Tina Satchwell's former house.

It is located at 3 Grattan Street in Youghal, Cork, Ireland.

Satchwell (top left) disappeared from her home on Monday, March 20th, 2017. The 44-year-old was last seen in public the previous day, when she visited a car boot sale in Carrigtwohill with her husband, Richard Satchwell (below left).

Richard claimed that Tina was "gone" after he returned home from a trip to a supermarket in the nearby town of Dungarvan, Waterford.

He did not report her missing until March 24th, which was four days after her disappearance.

Richard said that his wife was troubled and that she may have taken €26,000 in cash before relocating to the United Kingdom. However, her passport and identification were still in the house, and the Gardaí (Irish police) were unable to find any evidence that she had traveled by plane or ferry.

Investigators began to suspect foul play after they learned that Tina had not used her phone or accessed her bank account since the day she went missing. Multiple CCTV cameras in Youghal also failed to capture her movements.

Despite this, they were unable to press charges, as a 12-hour technical examination of the couple's home failed to find anything of evidential value.

In the months that followed, Richard made several appearances on radio and television shows. During his interviews, he appealed for information about his wife's whereabouts and repeatedly denied any involvement in her disappearance.

On one occasion, he publicly stated that he would be willing to take a lie detector test. However, he backed out of doing so during an appearance on Cork's Red FM radio station.

In 2023, a team of detectives was assigned to carry out a review of the case. After analyzing Richard's statements, email records, CCTV footage, and data from his mobile phone, they determined that he was lying about leaving Cork to travel to a supermarket in Waterford.

While comparing pictures of the house before and after her disappearance, they noticed that a new wall had been added near the underside of a stairwell. This piqued their interest, as the 2017 search had noted that the couple's stairs appeared to have been made out of new untreated wood.

Richard was arrested on suspicion of Tina's murder on October 10th, 2023.

That same day, the Gardaí began searching the house using drills, jackhammers, and a cadaver dog.

Satchwell's remains were found inside a hidden compartment in a concrete floor that lay beyond a walled-up section beneath the staircase. She had been wrapped in a blanket and black plastic before being placed face-down in a shallow grave.

Richard was charged with his wife's murder on October 13th, 2023. In response, he said, "Guilty or not guilty. Guilty."

On May 30th, 2025, he was found guilty of murder. Five days later, he was sentenced to life in prison.
