Robert Shulman's house
This is Robert Shulman's former house.
It is located at 11 Glow Lane in Hicksville, New York.
Shulman was a serial killer who murdered five women between 1991 and 1995.
At the time of the killings, the residence contained four separate apartments. Shulman lived at the house with his younger brother, Barry, an elderly landlady, and another tenant.
His apartment was on the second floor, at the back of the property.

Murders
Shulman was a postal worker who regularly solicited sex workers on Jamaica Avenue in Queens.
At the time, the area between 198th Street and Francis Lewis Boulevard was a popular red-light district.

After picking someone up, Shulman brought them back to Hicksville in his blue Cadillac and walked them through a gate on the left-hand side. He then led them into his apartment via a screened-in porch.
Once inside, he often instructed them to strip naked and help him cook crack cocaine.
He released most of the women unharmed. However, on at least five occasions, Shulman reportedly lost control and bludgeoned the women to death with a baseball bat, hammer, or barbell.

Following the murders, he dismembered the victims' bodies with a hacksaw and disposed of their remains at various locations in Yonkers and Long Island. His brother, Barry, helped him dispose of at least three of the victims.
Because he lived with other tenants, he had to use cleaning products and air fresheners to mask the smell of decomposition.
Victims
Lori Vasquez (24) was Shulman's first known victim.
On August 31, 1991, her dismembered remains were found in a garbage can in a wooded area in Yonkers.

Ten months later, the body of Meresa Hammonds (31) was discovered in a dumpster on Midland Avenue.

Hammonds remained unidentified for nearly 30 years. She was known as Yonkers Jane Doe until 2021, when investigators used genetic genealogy to track down her relatives.
Shulman's third victim, Medford Jane Doe, has yet to be identified.
On December 7, 1994, her partial remains were found inside a blue Rubbermaid container at the side of a road between Yaphank and Medford.

The victim had a tattoo on her left shoulder depicting a red heart with a white banner and the name "Adrian."
In April 1995, Shulman murdered 18-year-old Lisa Ann Warner.
His fifth and final victim was a sex worker named Kelly Sue Bunting (28), whose body was found on December 11, 1995.
Shulman had wrapped her remains in a sleeping bag and thrown it into a dumpster at a sheet metal company in Melville. An employee made the discovery while he was searching for a missing lottery ticket.

Investigation
Although Shulman dismembered Bunting to hinder her identification, he failed to remove a tattoo on her left breast.
When the police released a photograph of the tattoo to the media, they received a tip that led them to Hollis, Queens.
There, sex workers identified the tattoo as belonging to Bunting, who operated under the name Melani Vilavencencio.
Two women named "Camille M." and "Maggie D." told detectives that they remembered seeing Bunting getting into an older model blue Cadillac.
They identified the car as belonging to "Bob," a regular client who brought sex workers back to his house in Hicksville. Although Camille and Maggie could not recall Shulman's exact address, they were able to lead detectives to his apartment.
Investigators later determined that the sleeping bag found with Bunting's body came from a Sears store where Shulman had registered for a credit card.
Arrest
Following his arrest, Shulman immediately broke down and confessed to the murders. During questioning, he initially claimed that he had "blacked out" and then woke up to find the women dead. However, he later admitted that he had "lost control."
An examination of his bedroom uncovered bloodstains that fit the DNA profile of three of the victims.
In 1999, Shulman was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. However, his death sentence was overturned in 2004 after the New York Court of Appeals ruled that the state's death penalty statute was invalid due to an unconstitutional jury instruction.
Shulman died in prison of undisclosed causes on April 13, 2006.
His brother, Barry, was sentenced to two years in jail for helping him dispose of the bodies.
