The location where Rex Heuermann was arrested

This is the location where Rex Heuermann was arrested.

It is situated outside of 375 5th Avenue in Manhattan, New York.

On the evening of July 13th, 2023, Heuermann left his architecture firm and began walking south along 5th Avenue.

Not long before, he had been chatting and cracking jokes with a work colleague on the phone.

Surveillance footage showed the 59-year-old strolling toward the corner of 35th Street with a bag slung over his shoulder, completely unaware that his entire world was about to come crashing down.

By that stage, 16 months had passed since he first became the prime suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killer (LISK) investigation, a case that had gone unsolved for more than twelve years.

Heuermann entered the yellow ellipse above at around 8.30 p.m., only to be immediately confronted by a group of plainclothes officers, most of whom seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

Shocked, he proceeded to stand motionless while they surrounded him and took him into custody.

Roughly 12 hours later, he was charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello.

A few months later, in January 2024, he was charged with the second-degree murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Since then, he has also been indicted for three of the earlier 1993-2003 murders.
