The alley where Jose Bolanos was murdered

This is the alley where Jose Bolanos was murdered.

It is situated near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and West 110th Street in Los Angeles, California.

Bolanos (37) is the first known victim of a suspected serial killer who murdered three homeless men in late November 2023.

The shooting occurred at around 3 a.m. on Sunday, November 26th, 2023.

Later that morning, at roughly 7 a.m., a passerby was walking through the alley when they saw Bolanos lying on a sofa.

Initially, it appeared as though he was sleeping. However, upon closer inspection, they noticed that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

This was the first known attack in a series of three shootings.

In the days that followed, two more homeless men were shot dead in the downtown and Lincoln Heights areas of Los Angeles.

On December 2nd, 2023, the LAPD announced that they had arrested 33-year-old Jerrid Joseph Powell in connection with the crimes. Powell's BMW was at all three crime scenes. Furthermore, a handgun found in his vehicle proved to be a ballistics match with the weapon used in the murders.

When the arrest took place, the suspect was already in custody for a homicide that occurred during a home robbery on Thursday, November 30th, 2023.
