Hawkins Laboratory

This is the filming location of Hawkins Laboratory from Stranger Things.

The address is 1256 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia.

In real life, it is called the Emory Briarcliff Campus.

Before Emory acquired the property, it was a psychiatric hospital called the Georgia Mental Health Institute.

The hospital operated from 1965 until 1997, when rising costs forced it to close. Shortly afterwards, Emory purchased it for $2.9 million.

The lab features extensively throughout the series, as it is the place where a child test subject named Eleven unintentionally opens a gate to a hellish dimension called the "Upside Down."

During the pilot episode, Eleven manages to escape the complex. Soon after, three teenage friends named Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson discover her wandering around in the woods.

After meeting the young girl and taking pity on her, Mike decides to bring her back to his house and hide her from the authorities.

During the first season, the lab is run by Dr. Martin Brenner, who conducts mind experiments with children.

Although it is claimed that the Hawkins National Laboratory belongs to the US Department of Energy, it is heavily implied that an intelligence agency such as the CIA is the real owner.
