Hawkins High School

This was the filming location for Hawkins Middle School and High School in Stranger Things.

It is situated at 109 South Lee Street in Stockbridge, Georgia.

The building was demolished between 2023 and 2024 to make way for a new state-of-the-art STEM school.

It was originally the home of Patrick Henry High School, which closed in 2015 after its board of education voted to relocate to McDonough and rename itself the Excel Academy.

Shortly afterwards, the production team behind the series seized the opportunity to rent the recently vacated property and use it as a filming set.

Several important scenes take place here during the first season.

When the Chief of Police, Jim Hopper, learns that they need 1,500 pounds of salt to amplify Eleven's powers, he remembers that the school has dozens of bags of de-icing salt.

Once inside, they create a makeshift sensory deprivation tank in the gymnasium. By increasing Eleven's psychokinetic abilities, they hope that she will be able to locate their missing friend Will in the Upside Down world.

At the end of Season 1, the group breaks into Hawkins Middle School while they are on the run from Dr. Martin Brenner and his agents.

Brenner and his agents swarm the school, hoping to recapture Eleven and bring her back to the laboratory.

However, while they are searching the building, a humanoid Demogorgon creature from the Upside Down world attacks them and takes them out.

Once the agents have been killed, the Demogorgon shifts its attention to the group.

As it is charging towards them, all hope seems lost until Eleven suddenly emerges from the back and destroys the creature with her powers.

She then vanishes into thin air.

Later Seasons

The school remains a central location in later seasons. In Season 2, the group arrives at the school dressed as the Ghostbusters, only to find that no one else is wearing a costume.

This season also introduces new students Billy Hargrove and his stepsister, Max.

Max is often seen skateboarding around the grounds. In one scene, she makes her way to her brother's car, where he warns her she will be skateboarding home if she is late again.
