Anthony Templet's house
This is the house where Anthony Templet shot his father, Burt Templet.
It is located at 17652 Gray Moss Avenue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The case gained worldwide attention after it was featured in the Netflix documentary series I Just Killed My Dad, which premiered on August 9, 2022.
Background
Anthony's birth mother, Teresa Thompson, met his father, Burt, while he was working for an oil company in Texas. The pair began a relationship, and she eventually agreed to move to Houston with him.

Although their relationship initially seemed positive, Thompson said she soon noticed concerning behavior. She recalled that Burt demanded her attention from morning to night. On one occasion, he became aggressive because she was too busy cooking and cleaning to look at him.
She also alleged that he was physically abusive. In one instance, he attacked her for preparing pork chops for breakfast. In another, he beat her so badly that she was confined to bed for a week.
In 2007, Burt took Anthony from Thompson and moved to Louisiana. Lacking the financial resources to fight a custody battle in another state, she lost access to her son, and Burt gained sole custody.
Controlling behavior
The investigation later revealed that Burt was a controlling man who frequently abused his son and partners. He kept them under constant observation by installing GPS trackers on their phones and mounting eight security cameras around the property to maintain authority over his family.

He also isolated Anthony from the outside world, preventing him from attending school or dental appointments.
Burt's wife, Susan, left him in December 2018 after he punched her in the face and shattered one of her teeth. One month later, she filed for a protective order against him.

Shooting
Anthony said his father started drinking heavily following her departure.
During questioning, the teenager told detectives that Burt had drunkenly barged into his room around 3 a.m. on June 3, 2019. At the time, Burt was reportedly angry that Anthony had contacted his former stepmother.
When his father began acting aggressively, Anthony ran into the master bedroom, locked the door, and grabbed two revolvers. Meanwhile, Burt started banging on the door and trying to force his way inside.
Armed with the weapons, the teenager opened the door and shot him. Burt stumbled backward and reportedly begged his son to stop. However, Anthony ignored his pleas and fired two more shots.
Anthony then called 911 and told the operator he had killed his father:
"Uh... I just... killed my dad. Um... What do I need to tell you?"

When police officers arrived at the scene, they handcuffed the 17-year-old and placed him in the back of their cruiser. After entering the house through the back door, they observed a revolver on the kitchen island.

Authorities found Burt lying motionless on the bathroom floor. They also located the second gun in the master bedroom. Anthony stated he kept this weapon as a backup.

Emergency responders transported the 53-year-old to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries a few days later.
Prosecutors originally charged Anthony with second-degree murder. His defense lawyer subsequently negotiated a plea deal with District Attorney Hillar Moore.
After weighing the unusual circumstances of the case, Moore agreed to reduce the charge to negligent homicide.
Consequently, a judge sentenced Anthony to five years of probation instead of a prison term. Because of his isolated upbringing, the court required him to earn a high school diploma and attend counseling. Following his release, Anthony reconnected with his birth mother.
