Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub on the afternoon of October 28th, 2023, by his personal assistant.
His assistant lifted his head above the water, pulled him to the side of the tub, and called 911.
By the time emergency responders arrived, it was too late, as an initial medical assessment determined that he was already deceased.
He was officially pronounced dead at the house at 4.17 p.m.
Perry had a well-publicized history of addiction. Although no illegal drugs were found inside the residence and an initial toxicology test ruled out fentanyl and methamphetamine, a post-mortem examination concluded that he had died due to the "acute effects of ketamine."
Drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine were also listed as contributing factors.
A spokesperson for the LA Medical Examiner said that the actor had been receiving small doses of ketamine for anxiety and depression. In larger amounts, the anesthetic can cause immobilization and detachment from reality.
