The site where Caryn Campbell was found
This is the site where Ted Bundy dumped the body of Caryn Campbell.
It is located on Owl Creek Road in Aspen, Colorado.
On January 12th, 1975, Bundy abducted Campbell from the Wildwood Inn in Snowmass Village.
Roughly one month later, a local worker was driving along this road when she noticed that something on an adjoining snowbank was attracting the attention of nearby birds.

After getting out of her vehicle to take a closer look, she saw that the birds were hovering around a frozen human corpse.

Using dental records, the police determined that the remains belonged to Campbell, who had mysteriously vanished from Snowmass Village.

The postmortem examination revealed that her skull had sustained three heavy fractures.

Although we will never know for sure how Bundy managed to abduct the young nurse, it is likely that he feigned an injury and asked her to help him carry something back to his vehicle.
Judging by his modus operandi during the murders of Georgann Hawkins and Susan Rancourt, it is likely that he strategically parked his Volkswagen Bug in the most secluded spot he could find.

After finding a section that suited his "needs," he wandered over towards the hotel in search of his next victim.
When Campbell agreed to help, he lured her back to the parking lot, where he struck her over the head and bundled her into his Volkswagen Bug.
At the time of her disappearance, the area was pretty deserted, as it was long past sunset, and the temperatures had dropped significantly.

Campbell was from a town called Dearborn, which lies to the west of Detroit, Michigan. One day before the murder, she had traveled to Colorado with her fiancé, Dr. Raymond Gadowski, and his two children.

The last confirmed sighting of her was in the corridor on the second floor of the inn, when she stepped off the elevator while she was en route to her room.
Gadowski said that she left the lobby and went upstairs to get a magazine. Because the magazine remained untouched, it appears as though she never made it that far.
She was last seen in an open corridor that overlooks the pool area at the Wildwood Inn. This raises the possibility that Bundy made contact with her from below.

For example, she may have spotted him fumbling around on crutches and offered to help. That, or he called out to her and asked for assistance.

It seems as though Campbell fell for one of Bundy's ruses and was lured to her death.

After beating and raping the 23-year-old, he strangled her to death in his Volkswagen.
Following the murder, Bundy drove three miles eastward before stopping at this section of Owl Creek Road.

He then lifted Campbell's body out of his car and hastily threw it down the bank. At the time, it was bitterly cold, and the area was covered in snow. Consequently, he did not put much effort into concealing her remains.
