2017 Las Vegas shooting location
This is the location where the 2017 Las Vegas shooting took place.
It is situated at 3901 South Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On the night of October 1st, 2017, a gunman named Stephen Paddock opened fire on an outdoor music festival from the Mandalay Bay hotel. The attack claimed 60 lives, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in recent memory.

Although Paddock's motive remains unknown, the 64-year-old had recently booked hotel rooms overlooking similar festivals in both Boston and Chicago. He also spent a considerable amount of money purchasing weapons and ammunition in four different states.

One month before the shooting, Paddock stayed at the Mandalay Bay hotel with his girlfriend, Marilou Danley.
The hotel sat across from Las Vegas Village, a large open-air venue on the opposite side of the boulevard. Danley later recalled that Paddock was acting strangely and appeared to be checking out the lot from different angles of their room.

On September 25th, 2017, Paddock arrived at Mandalay Bay again. However, on this occasion, he booked into Room 135 on the 32nd floor by himself. Four days later, on September 29th, he also booked the adjoining suite in Room 134.
The rooms in question overlooked Las Vegas Village, which was days away from hosting the "Route 91 Harvest" music festival.

During his stay, Paddock made multiple trips to his home in Mesquite so that he could fill his suitcases with weapons and bring them back to the hotel.
By the day of the music festival, he had filled his rooms with two dozen firearms and a large quantity of ammunition.

At roughly 10.05 p.m., Paddock broke two of the windows in his hotel rooms and began firing at the festivalgoers below.
For the next ten minutes, he fired more than 1,000 rounds from 12 semi-automatic rifles.
Initially, many people mistook the gunfire for fireworks. As he continued firing, the reality of the situation quickly sank in, causing widespread panic and confusion.

Police officers at the scene struggled to pinpoint the location of the gunman. There were also false reports about multiple shooters.
To complicate matters, the security fence at the festival made it difficult for people to escape the lot.
At some point during the shooting, the police noticed gunfire flashes coming from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. However, by the time they breached the room, Paddock had put a Smith & Wesson revolver up to his mouth and committed suicide.
36 women and 22 men were killed in the initial attack. Two women also died of complications from their injuries in the years that followed.
